Left Business Observer is an 8-page more-or-less monthly newsletter on economics and politics in the U.S. and the world at large. A list of recent back issues is on this web site.
LBO, founded in 1986, is edited by Doug Henwood. Henwood is also a contributing editor of The Nation and does a weekly program on WBAI radio (New York). His book, The State of the USA Atlas, was published by Simon & Schuster in 1994; his Wall Street was published by Verso in 1997 (paperback, 1998) to great acclaim and impressively vigorous sales (over 20,000).Kind words from others...admirably literate, even stylish and often sharply insightful
--Alan Abelson, Barron's"The first step is everybody should subscribe to LBO."
- Adolph Reed, author Stirrings in the Jug"We steal your stuff all the time"
- Jim Hightowerabsolutely essential reading
--Barbara Ehrenreichsalutary antidote to the economic mush in mainstream periodicals
--Alexander Cockburn, The NationIf Karl Marx wrote as well as Doug Henwood, who knows what course history might have taken?
--Jim Grant, editor, Grant's Interest Rate ObserverI read you with pleasure
--John Kenneth Galbraithmost delectable and insightful economics commentary being written in English today
--Jim O'Connor, University of California-Santa Cruzindispensable for anyone who wants to know where our economy is, where it is going, and why
--Eric Foner, Columbia UniversityMy monthly antidote to the economic pablum and downright lies published else where. Because it is
factual, clear, stylish, and funny, I read it as soon as it arrives--the acid test for anyone who receives too
much paper. Economist or not, you, too, need LBO to help you make sense of an often senseless world.
--Susan George, Transnational Institute...but in every crowd, there's a critic...you're scum...sick and twisted...it's tragic you exist
-- Norman Pearlstine, former executive editor, Wall Street Journal, now chief editor Time Inc. magazinesfrom Fortune's profile of its story development editor, Marta Dorion (April 8, 1991)By day's end, Dorion usually still has work to do. That's where the big (18-by-24-inch) red bag comes in --
a gift from chief of reporters Evelyn Benjamin. Dorion fills it with mail, manuscripts, and periodicals from
the Left Business Observer to the Harvard Business Review...Correspondence to:Left Business Observer
